Those who are fit enough to run miles on a treadmill should be equally able to jog through their neighborhood streets. When exercise is varied, it is harder for the body to plateau, so weight loss can continue.

You will want to protect your knees, and to do this, you will want to strengthen your thighs. Tearing a ligament in back of the kneecap is a sports injury that occurs quite frequently. You must do exercises that work your hamstrings and your quads in order to safeguard your knees. Some examples of these exercises are leg curls and leg extensions.

Maintain proper posture when walking, as this can prevent injury. Keep your shoulders back, walk tall and keep your back straight. Place your arms so that your elbows are at a 90-degree angle. You should swing your arms in a rhythm opposite that of your front foot. With each step, allow your heel to hit the ground first then, roll the rest of the foot forward.
